OR CROWNING IMAGES OF OUR LORD OR OUR LADY AT ANY TIME
After the sermon, the Celebrant goes to the crown (crowns) with which the image (images) of (Christ and) Mary is (are) to be crowned. The Celebrant rises (if a bishop, he puts aside the mitre), and, while standing in front of the altar (if a bishop, then at the chair), says or sings the following prayer. If images of both Christ and Mary are to be crowned, he includes in the prayer the words (printed in brackets) referring to an image of Christ.
BLESSING OF THE CROWN
V: Our help is in the name of the Lord.
R: Who hath made the heaven and earth.
V: The Lord be with you.
R: And with thy spirit.
Let us pray.
ALMIGHTY and everliving God, by whom all unclean things are made clean, and in whom all things made clean retain their lustre, we humbly implore thy sovereign power that these vessels and ornaments offered unto thee by thy servants may be freed from contamination of every unclean spirit, and that by thy blessing they remain hallowed for the use and service of the holy altar and of thy Church; through Christ our Lord.
R: Amen.
BLESSING OF THE STATUE OR IMAGE
V. Our help is in the name of the Lord.

Let us pray.
BLESSED art thou, O Lord, God of heaven and earth, for in thy mercy and justice thou didst cast down the mighty and exalt the lowly. Thy marvelous wisdom is shown above all in the Word made flesh and in his Virgin Mother. For he, thy only-begotten Son, who did freely humble himself even unto death on the cross, now sits at thy right hand and is radiant with unending glory, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords; and she, the Virgin who wished to be called thy hand-maid, was singled out to be Mother of the Redeemer and true Mother of all the living: now she is exalted above the choirs of angels and reigns in glory with her Son, interceding for all of us, the Queen of mercy, pleading for grace.
MERCIFUL Lord, look upon us, thy servants, who by crowning this image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, (or: Who by crowning this image of Jesus Christ our Lord and his Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary) proclaim him as King of all creation and approach her as our queen.
GRANT unto us the grace to follow them in serving thee; to do what love demands for the sake of our brothers and sisters; to be lowly on earth, so as to be exalted in heaven where thou dost reward thy faithful servants with a crown of eternal life. Through Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, livest and reignest, ever one God. World without end.
R. Amen.
CROWNING
After the prayer, the Celebrant sprinkles the crown (crowns) with holy water and in silence places the crown on the image of Mary. (Or, if the B.V.M. is depicted with the infant Jesus, the image of the Child is crowned, then the image of the B.V.M.)
After the crown (crowns) has (have) been placed on the image (images), the following antiphon or another suitable hymn or psalm is sung. During the singing, the Celebrant incenses the image (images) in the usual manner and then returns to the sedilia (or throne or faldstool for a Bishop).
Blessed Mary ever-Virgin, most worthy Queen of the world, pray for our peace and salvation, for thou art the Mother of Christ, the Lord and Savior of all. (In Paschaltide: Alleluia)
