Double – White

INTROIT Eccl. 45.30

The Lord established a covenant of peace with him, and made him a prince, that the dignity of priesthood should be his forever. Ps. 131.1. O Lord, remember David and all his meekness. V. Glory be.

COLLECT

O God, thou hast entrusted the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven to thy blessed Apostle Peter and have given him the power of bishop to bind or to loose. May his intercession free us from the slavery of sin;

And under one ending:

Commemoration of St. Paul

O God, thou hast instructed many nations through the preaching of the blessed apostle Paul. Let the power of his intercession with thee help us who venerate his memory this day. Through.

EPISTLE I Peter 1.1-7

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers dispersed through Pontus, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, elect, according to the fore-knowledge of God the Father, unto the sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. Grace unto you and peace be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy hath regenerated us unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead: Unto an inheritance, incorruptible, and undefiled and that cannot fade, reserved in heaven for you, Who, by the power of God, are kept by faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein you shalt greatly rejoice, if now you must be for a little time made sorrowful in divers temptations: That the trial of your faith (much more precious than gold which is tried by the fire) may be found unto praise and glory and honour at the appearing of Jesus Christ.

GRADUAL Ps. 106.32; 31

Let them extol him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders. V. Let them praise the Lord for his mercies and for his wondrous deeds to the children of men.

TRACT Matt. 16.18-19.

Thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church.
V. And the gates of hell shall not prevail against it: and I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. V. Whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. V. And whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 16.13-19

At that time, Jesus came into the quarters of Caesarea Philippi: and he asked his disciples, saying: Whom do men say that the Son of man is? But they said: Some John the Baptist, and other some Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets. Jesus saith to them: But whom do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answering said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon BarJona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.

The Creed is said.

OFFERTORY Matt. 16.18-19

Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it; and I will give thee the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven.

EPISTLE II Cor.11.19-33; 12.1-9

Brethren, You gladly suffer the foolish: whereas yourselves are wise. For you suffer if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take from you, if a man be lifted up, if a man strike you on the face. I speak according to dishonor, as if we had been weak in the past. Wherein if any man dare (I speak foolishly), I dare also. They are Hebrews, so am I. They are Israelites, so am I. They are the seed of Abraham, so am I. They are the ministers of Christ (I speak as one less wise), I am more: in many more labors, in prisons more frequently, in stripes above measure, in deaths often. Of the Jews five times did I receive forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once I was stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I was in the depth of the sea: in journeying often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils from my own nation, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils from false brethren: in labor and painfulness, in much watching, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness; besides those things which are without, my daily instance, the solicitude for all the Churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is scandalized, and I am not on fire? If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things that concern my infirmity. The God and Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed for ever, knoweth that I lie not. At Damascus the governor of the nation under Aretas the king, guarded the city of the Damascenes, to apprehend me: and through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and so escaped his hands. If I must glory (it is not expedient indeed) but I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, whether in the body I know not, or out of the body, I know not, God knoweth, such a one caught up to the third heaven. And I know such a man, whether in the body or out of the body, I know not, God knoweth: that he was caught up unto paradise, and heard secret words which it is not granted to man to utter. For such a one I will glory: but for myself I will glory nothing but in my infirmities. For though I should have a mind to glory, I shall not be foolish: for I will say the truth: but I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth in me, or anything he heareth from me. And lest the greatness of the revelations should exalt me, there was given me a sting of my flesh, and angel of Satan, to buffet me. For which thing, thrice I besought the Lord that it might depart from me. And He said to me: my grace is sufficient for thee: for power is made perfect in infirmity. Gladly therefore will I glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

GRADUAL Ps. 82. 19, 14

Let the Gentiles know that God is thy Name: thou alone art the Most High over all the earth.
V.: O my God, make them like a wheel, and as stubble before the wind.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke (8. 4-15)

At that time, when a very great multitude was gathered together and hastened out of the cities unto Jesus, he spoke by a similitude: The sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the wayside, and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And other some fell upon a rock: and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And other some fell among thorns, and the thorns growing up with it choked it. And other some fell upon good ground: and being sprung up yielded fruit a hundredfold. Saying these things, he cried out: he that hath ears to hear, let him hear. And his disciples asked him what this parable might be. To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to the rest in parables: that seeing they may not see, and hearing may not understand. Now the parable is this. The seed is the word of God. And they by the wayside are they that hear: then the devil cometh and taketh the word out of their heart, lest believing they should be saved. Now they upon the rock are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no roots: for they believe for a while, and in time of temptation they fall away. And that which fell away among thorns are they who have heard and, going their way, are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and yield no fruit. But on the good ground are they who in a good and perfect heart, hearing the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit in patience.

OFFERTORY Ps. 16. 5-7

Perfect thou my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps be not moved: incline thine ear, and hear my works: show forth thy wonderful mercies, thou who savest them that trust in thee, O Lord.

SECRET

May the Sacrifice offered to thee, O Lord, ever quicken us and protect us. Through.

COMMUNION Ps. 42. 4

I will go in to the altar of God, to God who giveth joy to my youth.

POSTCOMMUNION

INTROIT Ecclus. 45.30.

The Lord made to him a covenant of peace, and made him a prince: that the dignity of the priesthood should be to him forever. Ps. 131.1. O Lord, remember David: and all his meekness. V.: Glory be.

COLLECT

Look down upon our weakness, almighty God; and since the weight of our deeds bears us down, may the glorious intercession of Blessed Simeon, thy Bishop and Martyr, protect us. Through.

EPISTLE James 1.12-18.

Dearly Beloved: Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for, when he hath been proved, he shall receive the crown of life which God hath promised to them that love him. Let no man, when he is tempted, say that he is tempted by God. For God is not a tempter of evils: and he tempteth no man. But every man is tempted by his own concupiscence, being drawn away and allured. Then, when concupiscence hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin. But sin, when it is completed, begetteth death. Do not err, therefore, my dearest brethren. Every best gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change nor shadow of alteration. For of his own will hath he begotten us by the word of truth, that we might be some beginning of his creature.

GRADUAL Ps. 88.21-23.

I have found David, my servant: with my holy oil I have anointed him: for my hand shall help him, and my arm shall strengthen him. V:. The enemy shall have no advantage over him, nor the son of iniquity have power to hurt him.

Tract Ps. 20.3-4

Thou hast given him his heart's desire; and hast not withholden from him the will of his lips.
V.: For thou hast prevented him with blessings of sweetness.
V.: Thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke (14.26-33)

At that time, Jesus said: If any man come to me, and hate not his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, yea and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. For which of you, having a mind to build a tower, doth not first sit down and reckon the charges that are necessary, whether he have wherewithal to finish it: Lest, after he hath laid the foundation and is not able to finish it, all that see it begin to mock him, Saying: This man began to build and was not able to finish. Or, what king, about to go to make war against another king, doth not first sit down and think whether he be able, with ten thousand, to meet him that, with twenty thousand, cometh against him? Or else, while the other is yet afar off, sending an embassy, he desireth conditions of peace. So likewise every one of you that doth not renounce all that he possesseth cannot be my disciple.

OFFERTORY Ps. 88.25.

My truth and my mercy shall be with him: and in my Name shall his horn be exalted.

SECRET

Graciously receive, O Lord, the sacrifice offered to thee by the merits of blessed Simeon, thy Martyr and Bishop, and grant that it may be to us an unfailing help. Through.

Once I have sworn by my holiness: his seed shall endure for ever; and his throne as the sun before me, and as the moon perfect for ever: and a faithful witness in heaven.

Refreshed by partaking of thy holy Gift, we beseech thee, O Lord, our God, that through the intercession of Blessed Simeon, thy Martyr and Bishop, we may perceive the fruit of the rite which we celebrate. Through.

EPISTLE I Cor.9.24-27; 10.1-5

Brethren, Know you not that they that run in the race, all run indeed, but one receiveth the prize? So run that you may obtain. And every one that striveth for the mastery refraineth himself from all things; and they indeed that they may receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible one. I therefore so run, not as at an uncertainty; I so fight, not as one beating the air: but I chastise my body, and bring it into subjection: lest perhaps when I have preached to others, I myself should become a castaway. For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all in Moses were baptized, in the cloud and in the sea: and did all eat the same spiritual food, and drank the same spiritual drink: (that they drank of the spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.) But with most of them God was not well pleased.

GRADUAL Ps. 9.10-11,19-20.

A helper in due time in tribulation: let them trust in thee who know thee: for thou hast not forsaken them that seek thee, O Lord. V.: For the poor man shall not be forgotten to the end: the patience of the poor shall not perish for ever: arise, O Lord, let not man prevail.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew (20. 1-16)

At that time Jesus spoke to his disciples this parable: The kingdom of God is like to a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers in his vineyard. And having agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And going out about the third hour, he saw others standing in the market place idle, and he said to them: Go you also into my vineyard, and I will give you what shall be just. And they went their way. And again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour: and did in like manner. But about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing, and he saith to them: Why stand you here all the day idle? They say to him: Because no man hath hired us. He saith to them: Go you also into my vineyard. And when evening was come, the lord of the vineyard saith to his steward: Call the laborers and pay them their hire, beginning from the last even to the first. When therefore they were come that came about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first also came, they thought that they should receive more: and they also received every man a penny. And receiving it they murmured against the master of the house, saying: These last have worked but one hour, and thou hast made them equal to us that have borne the burden of the day and the heats. But he answering said to one of them: Friend, I do thee no wrong; didst thou not agree with me for a penny? Take what is thine and go thy way: I will also give to this last even as to thee. Or, is it not lawful for me to do what I will? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? So shall the last be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.

15 February 2017 - Saint Faustina and Jovita, Martyrs

Simple - Red

INTROIT Ps. 36.39.

But the salvation of the just is from the Lord: and he is their protector in the time of trouble. Ps. 36.1. Be not emulous of evil-doers: nor envy them that work iniquity. V. Glory be.

COLLECT

O God, who dost gladden us by the annual feast of thy holy Martyrs Faustinus and Jovita, mercifully grant that we who rejoice in their merits may be inspired by their example. Through.

EPISTLE Heb. 10.32-38.

Brethren: Call to mind the former days, wherein, being illuminated, you endured a great fight of afflictions. And on the one hand indeed, by re-proaches and tribulations, were made a gazingstock; and on the other, became companions of them that were used in such sort. For you both had compassion on them that were in bands and took with joy the being stripped of your own goods, knowing that you have a better and a lasting substance. Do not therefore lose your confidence which hath a great reward. For patience is necessary for you: that, doing the will of God, you may receive the promise. For yet a little and a very little while, and he that is to come will come and will not delay. But my just man liveth by faith: but if he withdraw himself, he shall not please my soul.

GRADUAL Ps. 33.18-19.

The just cried, and the Lord heard them: and delivered them out of all their troubles. V. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart: and he shall save the humble of spirit.

Tract Ps. 125.5-7

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. V. Going, they went and wept, casting their seeds. V. But coming, they shall come with joyfulness, carrying their sheaves.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke (12.1-8)

At that time: Jesus said unto his disciples: Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed: nor hidden that shall not be known. For whatsoever things you have spoken in darkness shall be published in the light: and that which you have spoken in the ear in the chambers shall be preached on the housetops. And I say to you, my friends: Be not afraid of them who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. But I will shew you whom you shall fear: Fear ye him who, after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell. Yea, I say to you: Fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? Yea, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows. And I say to you: Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.

OFFERTORY Wis. 3.1-3.

The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and the torment of death shall not touch them: in the sight of the unwise they seemed to die, but they are in peace.

SECRET

Stand by us, O Lord, while we commemorate thy saints and humbly pray: that by their merits, these thy friends may assist us who dare not rely on our own merits. Through.

Communion Matt. 10.27.

That which I tell you in the dark, speak ye in the light, saith the Lord: and that which you hear in the ear, preach ye upon the house-tops.

POSTCOMMUNION
Well satisfied with these saving mysteries, O Lord we beseech thee that they whose feast we celebrate may aid us by their prayers. Through.

14 February 2017 - Saint Valentine, Priest & Martyr

Simple - Red

INTROIT Ps. 20.2-3.

In thy strength, O Lord, the just man shall joy: and in thy salvation he shall rejoice exceedingly: thou hast given him his heart's desire. Ps. 20.4. For thou hast prevented him with blessings of sweetness: thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones. V.: Glory be.

COLLECT

Grant, we beseech thee, O almighty God, that we, who celebrate the heavenly birthday of blessed Valentine, thy Martyr, may by his intercession be delivered from all the evils that threaten us. Through.

LESSON Wis. 10.10-14.

She conducted the just, when he fled from his brother's wrath, through the right ways, and shewed him the kingdom of God, and gave him the knowledge of the holy things, made him honourable in his labours, and accomplished his labours. In the deceit of them that overreached him, she stood by him, and made him honourable. She kept him safe from his enemies, and she defended him from seducers, and gave him a strong conflict, that he might overcome, and know that wisdom is mightier than all. She forsook not the just when he was sold, but delivered him from sinners: she went down with him into the pit. And in bands she left him not, till she brought him the sceptre of the kingdom, and power against those that oppressed him: and shewed them to be liars that had accused him, and gave him everlasting glory.

Gradual Ps. 111.1-2.

Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: he delighteth exceedingly in his commandments. V.: His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the righteous shall be blessed.

Tract Ps. 20.3-4

Thou hast given him his heart's desire; and hast not withholden from him the will of his lips.
V.: For thou hast prevented him with blessings of sweetness.
V.: Thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
 (10.34-42)

At that time, Jesus said unto his disciples: do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's enemies shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it. He that receiveth you, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me. He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive the reward of a prophet: and he that receiveth a just man in the name of a just man, shall receive the reward of a just man. And whosoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, amen I say to you he shall not lose his reward.

OFFERTORY Ps. 8.6-7.

Thou hast crowned him with glory and honor: and hast set him over the works of thy hands, O Lord.

SECRET

We beseech thee, O Lord, graciously receive the gifts we offer to thee: and may they, in view of the merits of thy blessed Martyr Valentine, be of help to us towards our salvation. Through.

Communion Matt. 21.24.

If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

POSTCOMMUNION

O Lord, may this heavenly mystery be to us the renewal of body and soul, that by the intercession of blessed Valentine, thy Martyr, we may feel the influence of this Sacrifice. Through.

AND the temple of God was opened in heaven: and the ark of his testament was seen in his temple, and there were lightnings, and voices, and an earth-quake, and great hail. And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars: And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying: Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ.

Thou art the glory of Jerusalem, thou art the joy of Israel, thou art the honor of our people. Thou art all fair O Mary, and the original stain is not in thee. Truly happy art thou, O holy Virgin Mary, and most worthy of all praise; for with thy virginal foot thou hast crushed the serpent's head.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke (1.26-31)

AT that time the Angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And the Angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace: the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. Who having heard, was troubled at his saying: and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be. And the Angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God: behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus.

INTROIT Ps. 44.8.

LESSON II Cor. 10.17-18; 11.1-2.

BRETHREN: He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commendeth himself is approved: but he, whom God commendeth. Would to God you could bear with some little of my folly! But do bear with me. For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God. For I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

GRADUAL Ps. 44.5,15,16.

With thy comelieness and thy beauty set out, proceed prosperously and reign. Because of truth and meekness and justice: and thy right hand shall conduct thee wonderfully.

TRACT Ps. 44.11, 12; 13-10; 15, 10.

Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thine ear: for the King hath greatly desired thy beauty. All the rich among the people shall entreat thy countenance: the daughters of kings in thine honor. After her shall virgins be brought to the King: her neighbors shall be brought to thee. They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: they shall be brought into the temple of the King.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew (25.1-13)

AT that time: Jesus said this parable unto his disciples: Then shall the kingdom of heaven be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride. And five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them. But the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps. And the bridegroom tarrying, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh. Go ye forth to meet him. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out. The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell and buy for yourselves. Now whilst they went to buy the bridegroom came: and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage. And the door was shut. But at last came also the other virgins, saying: Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answering said: Amen I say to you, I know you not. Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour.

For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: and will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. Be sober. For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice, which the Lord, the just Judge, will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming.

Gradual Ps. 36.30-31.

The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom, and his tongue shall speak judgement. V.: The law of his God is in his heart: and his steps shall not be supplanted.

Tract Ps. 111.1-3.

Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: he shall delight exceedingly in his commandments. V:. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the righteous shall be blessed. V.: Glory and wealth shall be in his house: and his justice remaineth for ever and ever.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew (5.13-19)

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled. He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

¶ The Creed is said in all masses of Doctors of the Church.

8 February 2017 - Saint John of Matha, Confessor

Double - White

INTROIT Ps. 36.30-31.

The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom and his tongue shall speak judgement: the law of his God is in his heart. Ps. 36.1. Be not emulous of evildoers: nor envy them that work iniquity. V.: Glory be.

COLLECT

O God, who through Saint John didst from heaven deign to institute the Order of the Most Holy Trinity for ransoming captives from the power of the Saracens: help us through his merits, we beseech thee, to freedom from bondage of body and of soul. Through.

LESSON Ecclus. 31.8-11.

Blessed is the man that is found without blemish, and that hath not gone after gold, nor put his trust in money nor in treasures. Who is he, and we will praise him? For he hath done wonderful things in his life. Who hath been tried thereby, and made perfect, he shall have glory everlasting: he that could have transgressed, and hath not transgressed: and could do evil things, and hath not done them: therefore are his goods established in the Lord, and all the Church of the Saints shall declare his alms.

GRADUAL Ps. 91.13,14.

The just shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow up like the cedar of Libanus in the house of the Lord.

Tract Ps. 111.1-3

Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: he shall delight exceedingly in his commandments.
V:. His seed shall be mighty upon earth : the generation of the righteous shall be blessed.
V.: Glory and wealth shall be in his house: and his justice remaineth for ever and ever.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke (12.35-40)

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: Let your loins be girt, and lamps burning in your hands. And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately. Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and passing will minister unto them. And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch, and would not suffer his house to be broken open. Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not, the Son of Man will come.

OFFERTORY Ps. 88.25.

My truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my Name shall his horn be exalted.

Behold, a great priest who in his days pleased God, and was found just; and in the time of wrath he was made a reconciliation. There was not found the like to him who kept the law of the Most High. Therefore by an oath the Lord made him to increase among his people. He gave him the blessing of all nations, and confirmed his covenant upon his head. He acknowledged him in his blessings; he preserved for him his mercy and he found grace before the eyes of the Lord. He glorified him in the sight of kings, and gave him a crown of glory. He made an everlasting covenant with him, and gave him a great priesthood blessed in glory. To execute the office of priesthood, and to have praise in his name and to offer him a worthy incense for an odor of sweetness.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke (10.1-9)

At that time, Jesus appointed also another seventy-two: and he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come. And he said to them: The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send labourers into his harvest. Go: Behold I send you as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes; and salute no man by the way. Into whatsoever house you enter, first say: Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you. And in the same house, remain, eating and drinking such things as they have: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house. And into what city soever you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. And heal the sick that are therein, and say to them: The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

EPISTLE I Cor. 1.26-31

Brethren, see your vocation, that there are not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble: But the foolish things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the wise; and the weak things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the strong. And the base things of the world, and the things that are contemptible, hath God chosen, and things that are not, that he might bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his sight. But of him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and justice, and sanctification, and redemption; that as it is written: He that glorieth, may glory in the Lord.

GRADUAL Ps. 45.6,5

God will help her with his countenance: God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved.
V. The stream of the river maketh the city of God joyful: the Most High hath sanctified his own tabernacle.

TRACT Ps. 125.5-6.

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. Going, they went and wept, casting their seeds. But, coming, they shall come with joyfulness, carrying their sheaves.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew (19.3-12)

At that time the Pharisees came to Jesus tempting him and saying: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? Who answering said to them: Have ye not read that he Who made man from the beginning made them male and female? and he said: For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh. Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. They say to him: Why then did Moses command to give a bill of divorce, and put away? He saith of them: Because Moses by reason of the hardness of your heart permitted you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away committteth adultery. His disciples say unto Him: If the case of a man with his wife be so, it is not expedient to marry. Who said to them: All men take not his word, but they to whom it is given, For there are eunuchs who were born so from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kindom of heaven. He that can take it, let him take it.
