28 January 2016 - Saint Peter Nolasco, Confessor (Commemoration of St. Agnes, V.M., 2nd Mass)

Double - White

INTROIT Ps. 91.13-14.

The just shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow up like the cedar of Libanus: planted in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God. Ps. 91.2. It is good to give praise to the Lord: and to sing to thy Name, O Most High. V.: Glory be.

COLLECT

O God, who after the example of thine own love didst divinely teach blessed Peter to enrich thy Church with a new offspring for the ransoming of the faithful: grant by his intercession that we may be set free from the bondage of sin, and may rejoice in lasting freedom in our heavenly home. Through.

Commemoration: Of St. Agnes

O God, who year by year dost gladden us with the festival of blessed Agnes, thy Virgin and Martyr, grant, we beseech thee, that as we honor her in this service, we may follow the example of her holy life. Through.

EPISTLE I Cor. 4.9-14.

Brethren, We are made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we without honor. Even unto this hour we both hunger and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no fixed abode; and we labor, working with our own hands: we are reviled, and we bless; we are persecuted, and we suffer it. We are blasphemed, and we entreat; we are made as the refuse of this world, the offscouring of all even until now. I write not these things to confound you; but I admonish you as my dearest children: in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GRADUAL Ps. 36.30-31.

The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom, and his tongue shall speak judgement. V.: The law of his God is in his heart: and his steps shall not be supplanted.

Tract Ps. 111.1-3.

Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: he shall delight exceedingly in his commandments. V.: His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the righteous shall be blessed. V.: Glory and wealth shall be in his house: and his justice remaineth for ever and ever.

+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke (12.32-34)

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: Fear not, little flock, for it hath pleased your Father to give you a kingdom. Sell what you possess and give alms. Make to yourselves bags which grow not old, a treasure in heaven which faileth not: where no thief approacheth, nor moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

OFFERTORY Ps. 20-2-3.

In thy strength, O Lord, the just man shall joy, and in thy salvation he shall rejoice exceedingly: thou hast given him his heart's desire.

SECRET

In memory of thy Saints, O Lord, we offer thee the sacrifice of praise, by which we trust to be freed from both present and future evils. Through.

Commemoration: Of St. Agnes

We beseech thee, O Lord, may there descend upon these offerings thine abundant blessing: both mercifully to work our sanctification and to give us joy on this festival of thy Martyrs. Through.

Communion Matt. 19.28, 29

Amen I say to you, that you, who have left all things and followed me, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting.

POSTCOMMUNION

We who are refreshed by heavenly meat and drink, humbly entreat thee, O our God, that we may be defended by the prayers of him in whose memory we have received them. Through.

Commemoration: Of St. Agnes

O Lord, we have received thy holy Sacraments on this annual festival: grant, we beseech thee, that they may confer upon us healing remedies both for this present life and for life eternal. Through.
