INTROIT Isaias 48. 20
DECLARE it with the voice of joy, and make it known, alleluia: declare it even to the ends of the earth: The Lord hath delivered his people, alleluia, alleluia. Ps. 65.1,2. Shout with joy to God, all the earth, sing ye a psalm to his Name: give glory to his praise. V.: Glory be.
COLLECT
GRANT, we beseech thee, O almighty God, that we, who in our affliction put our trust in thy mercy, may ever be defended by thy protection against all adversi-ties. Through.
O God, thou art the comfort of those who mourn and the Savior of all who trust in thee. Blessed Monica's loving tears moved thee to convert her son Augustine. May we also grieve for our sins and win the grace of thy pardon through the intercession of these two saints. Through.
¶ Then Commemorate the Rogation Day as on Monday and Tuesday and say the Seasonal Prayer for St. Mary only, as given before Low Sunday.
EPISTLE Eph. 4. 7-13
BRETHREN, To every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the giving of Christ. Wherefore he saith: Ascending on high, he led captivity captive; he gave gifts to men. Now, that he ascended, what is it, but because he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. And he gave some Apostles, and some Prophets, and other some Evangelists, and other some Pastors and Doctors, for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ; until we all meet into the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the age of the fulness of Christ.
Alleluia, alleluia. V.: Christ is risen, and hath shone upon us, whom he redeemed with his blood. Alleluia. V.: John. 16.28. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again I leave the world and go back to the Father. Alleluia.
+ The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to John (17.1-11)
AT that time, Jesus lifting up his eyes to heaven said: Father, the hour has come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son may glorify thee, as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he may give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do; and now glorify thou me, O Father, with thyself, with the glory which I had, before the world was, with thee. I have manifested thy Name to the men whom thou hast given me out of the world. Thine they were, and to me thou givest them, and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things which thou hast given me are from thee: because the words which thou gavest me, I have given to them: and they have received them, and have known in very deed that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. I pray for them; I pray not for the world, but for them whom thou hast given me; because they are thine: and all my things are thine, and thine are mine: and I am glorified in them. And now I am not in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee.
OFFERTORY Ps. 65. 8, 9, 20
O bless the Lord our God, ye peoples, and make the voice of his praise to be heard: Who hath set my soul to live, and hath not suffered my feet to be moved. Blessed be the Lord, who hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me, alleluia.
SECRET
MAY these oblations, O Lord, we beseech thee, both loosen the bonds of our wickedness, and obtain for us the gifts of thy mercy. Through.
Commemoration: St. Monica, Widow
Accept this gift, O Lord, from a people dedicated to thee. We offer it in honor of thy Saints for the help we have received from them when we were in trouble. Through.
