SATURDAY IN VIGIL OF THE PENTECOST
Major Vigil of the First Class
Purple – until the Litany Red – for the Mass
¶ The altar is prepared, but the candles are not lit. The ministers, vested in vio-let, genuflect and go up to the altar, and the priest kisses the altar in the center. The Celebrant reads the prophecies from the epistle corner as on Holy Saturday. The Collects are said without Flectamus genua (Let us bend the knee.) Then the ministers proceed to the font and bless it just as on Holy Saturday, except that if there is no font to bless, the ministers shall lay aside their vestments and proceed immedi-ately with the Litany.
LITANY
¶ The litany is chanted as at Holy Sat-urday while the ministers prostrate be-fore the altar. At the second part of the Litany, the minister rise and change into red vestments. The altar para-ments are changed from purple to red.
KYRIE
¶ As at Holy Saturday, the Kyrie is again chanted as the conclusion to the Litany. During this time, the confes-sion from the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar is said by the ministers and serv-ers. After the Indulgentiam, the priest says Oremus (Let us pray) as usual and goes to the altar, kissing it in the cen-ter.
GLORIA IN EXCELSIS
¶ Immediately after the Kyrie finishes, the Gloria is intoned and the bells are set ringing. After, the Celebrant says Dominus vobiscum (The Lord be with you), and then the Collect.
¶ In masses without the Blessing of the Font, the vestments begin as red and the mass begins with the following In-troit. If the Blessing of the Font is car-ried out, then this Introit is omitted.

THEN I shall be sanctified in you, I will gather you together out of all the countries: and I will pour upon you clean water and you shall be cleansed from your filthiness: and I will give you a new spirit, alleluia, alleluia. Ps. 33. 2. I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall be always in my mouth. V.: Glory be.
COLLECT
GRANT, we beseech thee, O almighty God, that the splendor of thy brightness may shine forth upon us, and the light of thy light may, by the illumination of the Holy Ghost, confirm the hearts of those who have been born again by thy grace. Through.
No other Collects are used at this mass.

IN those days, It came to pass, while Apollo was at Corinth, that Paul having passed through the upper coasts, came to Ephe-sus, and found certain disciples.
